This drama centers on Hank Chinaski, the fictional alter-ego of “Factotum” author Charles Bukowski, who wanders around Los Angeles, CA trying to live off jobs which don’t interfere with his primary interest, which is writing. Dillon is good as Chinaski, nicely capturing most of Bukowski's own spirit in the role. Matt Dillon portrays Henry Chinaski, a writer who mostly quests for booze and fast women. Good supporting cast notably Lili Taylor and Marisa Tomei as the women Chinaski beds and leaves on his way to being derelict poet laureate.

His Chinaski is content to live a hand-to-mouth existence and hold down a job long enough to buy a bottle of booze and muster enough to pay flophouse rent.
