Another found footage movie gets released, and seeing as this was released on DVD literally a week after its cinema release, with the cover bearing quotes like 'best British horror released in a long time', alarm bells did begin to ring. 2 out of 2 found this helpful. I normally place a fair bit of faith in the IMDb rating, pretty safe bet the film will be decent (as long as the subject matter/genre interests you)if it ranks above 5, hell I've even watched stuff ranking sub 4 that, because of the subject matter I have enjoyed.This is NOT one of those movies. If you want a movie with a ton of jump scares then go elsewhere. In a grassy, sunlit field, the lovers Joe and Claire spread out their picnic lunch and open a bottle of champagne. It is a little amazing, given how old this formula is, that "Cal" works as well as it does, perhaps because no story is old if it happens to new people. "Cal" tells a story that has been told many times before, but tells it quietly and powerfully about a particular time and place: Northern Ireland in the 1980s. It starts off as a pretty standard haunting horror type movie, although perhaps a little too slow for my liking. And the endings are usually what suck the most about horror movies. Movies. The Borderlands is one of the better found-footage films that has come out of late, and is one of the best British horror films to come out in a seriously long time. The Borderlands does not fall into that category. Rating: 3.5/5.

I just went on blind faith and I was treated to a great movie.

6 out of 7 found this helpful. All the shots are then taken from these points of view so we do experience some viewing as what the characters see but it's a tool not 'found footage' so shaky cam does not go over the top.

Wow, what a great little film. 40 out of 73 found this helpful. There are so many generically bland horror films out there that it dulls the senses. He would like to forget that. I don't understand people reviewing only movies they dislike, the ending was great if you ask me. the last 10 minutes of this film was one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen. They would be partly right, although to the film's credit, it manages to tread that old ground with a good enough script and performances to not seem tired. But the real story, of course, is that some people are unlucky enough to live in times and places where their actions do have tragic consequences.The argument in "Cal" is that in a situation like the one they find themselves in, it is impossible to be a bystander. Last year a film was released named 'In Fear', which managed to make the premise of two people getting lost in a maze of country roads as night draws in surprisingly creepy and gripping, before the final act gave way to a more pedestrian nature and the film lost its footing.
