IIRC, he came in contact with Tommy in a hospital/mental institution and made some passing comment about knowing Batman's identity, to which Tommy took interest.The Riddler/Batman interaction at the end is also important because it sets up The Riddler was suffering from an inoperable brain tumor - presumably consulted on by Elliot.He discovered the location of an unused Lazarus Pit, and used it in order to remove the tumor.Doing so effected him in the usual way of messing with your head for a while, but in his case it offered a simple bit of clarity - the pieces falling into place for the identity of Batman.He went back to Elliot, assuming that he would want to pay a fortune for the cure to cancer - but discovered instead that Elliot had a massive hatred for Wayne, and now that Riddler knew Bruce was Batman, was able to use that information.Using information from all manner of locations, they began to formulate an elaborate plan in order to destroy Bruce's life, as well as that of his allies - barraging him on all sides with all sorts of enemies, undermining his trust in his allies, etc.They allied with various villains by promising them things they wanted - money, freedom, the ultimate joke, healing old wounds, etc.Where it all fell apart was that in giving Two-Face the thing he wanted, healing his deformity, is that it subdued the Two-Face personality and let Harvey Dent come back into the forefront - by giving James Gordon information and having them step outside the script, they saved Bruce at the end.At the end, Bruce confronts the Riddler about his identity, and basically gives him two reasons that he won't reveal it - first, a riddle that everyone now knows has no value, and Riddler's compulsion means that he wants to horde the knowledge that he has over the other villains, not share it. Instead it trades it for the same ol "I have a code" schtick but instead switching it around to Bruce having a compulsion to save everyone, his own "Superman complex" which is what causes the argument between Selina and Bruce at the end.All in all, I do wish they stayed true to the trust issues over Superman complex route.Like you said it's a slow burn, there's just no time for that kind of story in this medium.Also i havent read the comics but i do plan to do so, how did tommy know that bruce is bats?So Jason Todd is in the film? Also tbh the order of panels gave me headaches. All that was easy to get, but after that I didn't understand a word of the last 5 pages. Very cool, normal superhero dating! Along the way, it introduced a dangerous new villain, gave all the core members of the Batman’s supporting cast a role to play, and pinned much of its tension around Batman and Catwoman’s hot-and-cold romance and his other relationships.It was also beautifully constructed.
