Marlon Riggs’ thought provoking documentary, Color Adjustment, presented various credible arguments about the portrayal of African Americans on television. But in other ways, the open-ended conclusion (twinged with a bit of gloom) is the same today: it can only get better, right? ... A History of African American Portrayal on Television. Of course it's a shame this stopped at the 80s due to when it was made because I would love to see Riggs' POV on how it continued. That's where this doc really shone. "The big flaws in "Color Adjustment" are that Riggs fails to compare the treatment of African-Americans on TV with that of other ethnicgroups and that he assumes what is on TV represents the attitudes of the majority of Americans.The relationship between TV and culture is far more complicated than"Color Adjustment" admits.

Probably a fantastic watch for an intro to media studies class tho!For a split second, I thought this was going to take the shape of a Farocki film, but alas, it does not hold up.

While I wholly agree with the sentiment of this piece and it certainly is a valuable demonstration of the way images influence and shape culture, I wish it was presented in a different form.Still mulling this one over.
