I wasn't sure about buying a poetry book but after seeing so many good reviews I thought I'd give it a chance.

McNish describes Nobody Told Me as 'All the things I couldn't talk about.' It's a nice entertainment and nicely written. I don't usually like poetry that much but cannot recommend this book enough. Such an amazing, empowering and enlightening read. I seem to be a bit slow to the party but glad I finally made it as think every mother should own this book. Made me laugh, made me cry, I loved it. Not just a poetry book, it's a book with some (amazing) poems spread throughout an honest account of motherhood. I really enjoyed this book. Buy it for yourself and every mum and mum to be you know. It feels like time that we started talking, The Skinny Her poetry has never shied away from issues of gender, race, commercialism and parenthood but it always delivers touching and accessible insights, and this book will surely do the same, The Big Issue. I loved the honesty and the fact the poems are integrated so naturally into her story of motherhood so far. But Hollie is different - she is real - she questions establishments and makes sense of things.

As a poet, she relishes the joy of language - loved the 'patient' / 'patient' moment in one of her diary extracts - I love language just as much as Little One! These were on top of the many other things she didn't know about babies: how to stand while holding one; how to do a poetry gig with your baby as a member of the audience; how drum'n'bass can make a great lullaby.

I read this cover to cover in a day. Think this will strike a chord with a lot of new mums (my babies are a bit older than that now!) I believe every woman, mother or not, will identify with her and every man should be (forced) to read it. I would read this book while putting my son to sleep and it made me feel even more thankful for him. Its wonderful.
